Text printed in red and black within border of typographic ornaments, partly on blue paper. 4 engraved plates of the Evangelists by Vasilii Ikonnikov, Semen Nazarov, Aleksei Anddreev and Stepan Iufimov after Petr Popov, Ivan Fedorov and Vtorov, small woodcut illustration of the Crucifixion, woodcut ornaments and initials. (Some leaves slightly soiled with marginal waterstains, a few tears, mostly marginal.) CONTEMPORARY CHASED AND ENGRAVED BRASS BINDING, upper cover with enamel plaques of the Resurrection and the four Evangelists (three damaged with loss), the borders with three enamel caption-plates only (others lacking), lower cover with the Agony in the Garden, brass knob rests, the spine with religious images (overall slightly rubbed, lacks clasps).
An unusually clean copy of the Gospels, intended for use on the Altar; the engravings were originally issued for the edition of 1766. Zernova and Kameneva 1302.
