Engraved title, headpiece, 70 illustrations and 54 plates, views, maps and portraits (i.e. 1 folding map; 15 double-page maps; 2 folding views; 29 double-page views; 6 portraits and 1 double-page plate). (Title with blank section of outer margin torn away and neatly repaired, ownership inscription somewhat crudely erased from title with resultant hole, occasional browning to the text, the folding map with small tears at folds, a small rusthole in one of the double-page views, outer margins shaved into plate area of one of the double-page maps.) Old vellum (neatly rebacked, ties lacking, later endpapers).
A fine copy of the FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN. The illustrations include a sea to land view of New Amsterdam [New York]. Sabin 50087.
