Autograph manuscript signed of the tale "The Touch in the Heart," n.p., n.d. 17 pages, 4to, written in black ink in his very neat hand on rectos only, a final copy for the printer with a few pencilled directions, noted at top "original draft and printer's copy," embellished by Field with 21 initial capitals and 7 small drawings (of toys, flowers, etc.) in colored inks in the margins; tan half morocco, spine gilt-lettered, t.e.g., by Ringer for A.C. McClurg & Co., slightly scuffed. Field's heart-wrenching story is of how the death of a beloved crippled little son puts the bereaved miserly father in touch with his humanity, before his own death.
