In the upper portion, dated 1 November 1773, receipt is acknowledged of funds "for ye passage of William Ewen & his Wife and two children to Philadelphia"; beneath, Hancock and other official certify that "the above named persons were strangers in the almshouse on the province account," and the payment "is according to arrangement."
