Governor Morton of Indiana, whose request Lincoln here approves, was one of the staunchest Union governors, though his state was rife with Copperhead sympathies. Lincoln, as the Presidential election approached, was clearly sympathetic to a request from this quarter.

Lincoln writes: "Will the Provost-Marshal General please see & hear Capt. Muzzey, for whom it seems is sought a place in the Veteran Reserve Corps."
