THE EMPEROR ANNOTATES A LIST OF OFFICERS UP FOR PROMOTION

Eight months after assuming the title of Emperor, Napoleon annotates and approves a detailed list of 50 officers proposed for vacancies in the Infantry command. The list is arranged in tabular form, indicating the officer each candidate is to replace and the regiment, with the last column reserved for "Décision de sa majesté." In that column, Napoleon has made, next to five names, brief notes regarding their promotions.
