Sara Prinsep (1816-1887) was the third of the seven Pattle sisters who play such a significant role in the annals of Victorian art. One of her older siblings was Julia Margaret Cameron, the celebrated photographer. Sara married Henry Thoby Prinsep, an Indian civil servant, in 1835, and in the 1850s and 1860s held a salon at Little Holland House in Kensington, which was frequented by everybody who was anybody in the worlds of science, politics, literature and art. G.F. Watts was her 'resident genius', living in the house and having his studio there, in which he painted the portraits of many of the distinguished guests
