Lot Essay

Throughout his life Chinnery's reputation as a painter, and most of his income, was derived from his portrait painting however he enjoyed far more the time he spent sketching the villages, temples, rivers and people. Chinnery was resident in India between 1802-1823. In 1825 he left India for Macao, and he spent the rest of his life in Macao, Hong Kong or Canton
