With tapering facetted citrine handle, the mounte with engraved foliate borders set with turquoise pellets and with a fluted back, chased with laurel leaves, the seal engraved with a kneeling slave in fetters and with an inscription, minor chips to tuirquoise, unmarked - 2½in. (6.2cm.) long

The inscription reads 'on m'attache pour me tuer'. By family tradition, the seal was presented to William Earle whose brother had a shipping business in Liverpool, by William Wilberforce, when the company ceased to trade in slaves.
