Shaped-circular and on four shell and vine feet and with shell and foliage border, chased with a broad band of shells, scalework and foliage and engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on front - 13in. (33cm.) diam.

The arms are those of Legh for William John Legh Esq. (d.1835) of Brymbo Hall, Co. Dengigh and of Hordle, Co. Hants. William Legh married Mary Anne (d.1838), eldest daughter and heir of John Wilkinson Esq. of Castlehead, whom he married in 1821. Their fourth and eldest surviving son William John Legh (1828-1898) succeeded to his father's estates in 1834 and to those of his uncle in 1857. He was created 1st Baron Newton of Newton-in-Makerfield in 1892
