A FINE GEORGE III SILVER TEA URN
maker's mark of Paul Storr, London, 1809 and 1810
Vase-shaped, the square base on four leaf-capped lion's paw feet, with two shell and leaf-capped reeded handles each terminating in a lion's mask and with shell, foliage and gadrooned rim and detachable domed cover with spirally fluted bud finial, the body and cover chased and applied with bands of fluting, anthemion ornament and palmettes, with lion's head spigot and fluted tap, engraved with two coats-of-arms, marked on base and cover - 15in. The arms are those of the See of Tuam impaling Beresford and Beresford impaling FitzGibbon for William Beresford (1743-1820), 3rd son of Marcus, 1st Earl of Tyrone, and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of John Fitzgibbon Esq. and sister of John, 1st Earl of Clare, whom he married in 1763. John Beresford was Bishop of Dromore 1780, Bishop of Ossory 1782 and Archbishop Tuam in 1794. In 1812 he was created Baron Decies of Decies, Co. Waterford.
