In a letter to Lady Wills, dated 27 May 1943, Commander How refers to this wine cup;
"Lot 44 Commonwealth wine cup. This has been slightly damaged at the rim, but nothing to worry about, and is a very pretty little piece which Sir Peter should have in his collection".
After the first day of the sale Commander How wrote again;
"The first day of the sale is over, taken overall, prices were high, as I thought they would be, but we just managed to get the little wine cup at our last bid of #150, and the beaker (lot 48) we bought for #180"
