The room is decorated in the Romantic-antiquarian taste pioneered by decorators like Thomas Willement and Lewis Cottingham, and popularised by the novels of Sir Walter Scott and the publication of Joseph Nash's Mansions of England in the Olden Times, the first volume of which appeared in 1839. Nash's illustrations have clearly influenced this drawing
