It is possible that the French inscription on this drawing was written not by the artist, whose name suggests an Austrian or a German, but by the owner. The style is similar in its clear illustrative handling to that of Johann Michael Voltz (1784-1858) whose attractive series of drawings recording a Biedermeier house and its family were done at about this time
