Lot Essay

Cauvy was the first artist to receive a travel grant in 1907 to the Villa Abd-el-Tif. He stayed in Algiers until his death, becoming head of the National School of Fine Arts in 1909, and influenced many of his pupils. A number of his early works are in Algiers Museum and the Musée de Cirta, Constantine.
