Taupin was a pupil of Benjamin Constant, exhibiting regularly at the Paris Salon until 1931, depicting 'everyday life in the southern Algerian oasis towns of Laghouat, El-Kantara and Bou-Saâda. Usually in ochres, whites and greens, they are representative of the open-air realist school of Orientalist painting encouraged by the Société des Peintres Orientalistes Français, of which he was a member' (L. Thornton, op. cit., p. 253). La Prière du Soir was acquired by the Musée National des Beaux-Arts, Algiers.
