This is a theme that Bridgman became fascinated with in the mid-1880s, exploring the light effects of the sun on the rooftops of Algiers buildings for many years thereafter.

A variant, Terrace in Algiers, was sold at Sotheby's, New York, 22 May 1991, lot 139.
