A letter from Anne Grierson, Research Assistant at the National Museum of Wales, to Patrick Farndale is attached to the reverse, 'Dear Mr. Farndale, Thank you for your letter of 13th October. Your drawing appears to be of Hanmer Hanbury and to be a study in reverse for the figure on the left in the portrait of Thomas and Hanmer Hanbury, circa 1926 in the possession of this museum. There is however another version of the painting in existence so I am not sure of the exact relation between your drawing and the museum painting.
