The sitter for this work is recorded in the artist's account book as Miss Aysthorpe and the work was despatched to the Goupil Gallery in Dec. 1887. The painting was executed during a visit to Lincolnshire to see his brother-in-law, Alfred Webster

We are very grateful to Professor Kenneth McConkey for his help in cataloguing this lot
