Lot Essay

The commission to design Oundle School Chapel windows was the first in stained glass that Piper received. He was approached in May 1953 to replace existing glass in the east window and to produce a full-length figure of Christ in all nine windows, each with a different symbolic attribute. The designs were influenced by French Romansque sculpture, in the appearance of the heads and the elongated proportions
