A FINE SET OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST MAJOR TREATMENT OF AUSTRALIAN BIRDS SINCE GOULD'S WORK, AND ONE OF THE LAST SIGNIFICANT WORKS TO BE ILLUSTRATED WITH HAND-COLOURED LITHOGRAPHS. NUMBER 17 OF AN EDITION LIMITED TO 225 COPIES. The final supplement wasn't published until 1936 and is frequently lacking. The Australia section is generally treated as complete in 12 volumes (plus the 5 supplementary parts, often bound in a single 13th volume). The author appears to have been undecided: in the preface to the first vol. of The Birds of Norfolk & Lord Howe he states categorically that it is not a supplement, in the 1936 A Supplement... he writes that it is.
