A large collection of hydrographical charts of mainland Greece and the Archipelago, including detailed charts and plans of Chios, Paros, Naxos, Lemnos, Patmos, Chania, Crete, Poros and Polo. The Admiralty surveys in this part of the Mediterranean were carried out by Captain Smyth in the Ionian sea and by Commander Copeland and Lieutenant T.Graves on H.M.S. Beacon and Magpie in the Archipelago and Greek mainland 1828-44. The Archipelago charts were issued in 1843-44 in London and for many islands represent the earliest accurate topographical surveys.
