This watch bears an inscription on the inside of the front cover To Captain Horatio McKay from the cabin passengers of the R.M.S.S. "Servia" carried to safety and comfort through the four days Atlantic hurricane on January 1885 by his seamanship, tact and courage. The watch is accompanied by a photocopied extract from Cunard Magazine with an article on the life and times of Captain Horation McKay, and, whilst not mentioning the hurricane for which the present watch was presented, it describes some of the dangerous situations from which Captain McKay managed to extricate his ships and passengers, for which he was awarded no less than 46 testimonials and a score of medals and watches by grateful passengers or representatives of foreign governments.
