Nicolas enjoyed and exceedingly high reputation as Paris Wine Merchants and such was the regard in which they were hold by the Château of Bordeaux, that they were uniquely permitted to mature in their own cellars, the substantial stocks of great vintages they bought: loose, in bin, unlabelled and uncapped. When the time came to sell they would "dress" the bottles with Château labels, new capsules and pack them in their own style of Bordeaux wooden cases.
