In the late 1970s, Rauschenberg, a former Naval recruit, created the Jammer series, derived from the term wind-jammer or sailing vessel. In the present work, which suggests the natural forces of the sea and wind, everday materials are transformed into an abstract sculpture of floating planes of color.
