Further details
Paul Poiret (1879-1944), the French costume and dress designer founded the Atelier Martine in 1911. Poiret recruited his young students from the Parisian working class and instructed them informally in his home in the study of nature. The students' designs were based on nature, especially flowers, the best of which were converted into fabrics by Paul Dumas or carpets manufactured by Fenaille. Poiret and the Atelier Martine participated at the annual Salons from 1912, exhibiting predominantly carpets as individual exhibits or as part of room sets.
