Lot Essay

This alternating trefoil composition is typical of Ottoman architectural ornament. A frieze of identical design from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, (inv.no.15.1300) is illustrated on plate 95 of Ipek, The Crescent and the Rose, Nuhran Atasoy, Walter B Denny, Louise W. Mackie and Hulya Tezcan, 2001.
