A GERMAN SILVER BEAKER AND COVER
Augsburg, circa 1747, maker's mark S two mullets above (Rosenberg, no. 849)
Molded thistle-form, on raised circular base, the lower body flat-chased with Baroque scrolls, applied four times with Classical profile medallion divided by flute, decoration repeated on the raised cover, the cover topped by baluster finial--5½in. (13.97cm.) high, 6.5oz., together with a similar Continental example--3¾in. (9.5cm.) high, 2.5oz. (2)
