Cartouche-shaped, the cover chased with scrolls enclosing a scene of Angelica and Medoro inscribing their names on trees in a landscape, Medoro adding "ANGE" to the inscription, the bombé sides chased with rocaille; the interior set with a portrait miniature of a man in armor

Lot Essay

The portrait miniature, in the style of Zincke, is attributable to one of his students, William Prewett (fl. 1735-1750). Prewett was one of the best enamellists of the English school, and his works are scarce.
