The soup tureen boat-shaped on spreading circular foot, with two upswept reeded handles, one side engraved with a coat-of-arms within garter mottoes and the seal of the Island of Saint Vincents, the other side engraved with an inscription, the domed cover surmounted by a heraldic crest finial, the side engraved with a helm and crest, the entree dishes oval with reeded border, the domed covers engraved with identical inscription, seal, and coat-of-arms below a helm and crest, surmounted by heraldic crest finial, the conforming plated stands chased with a gadroon border on four paw feet, marked on bases, covers, and liners

Lot Essay

The inscription reads: From the Inhabitants of the Island of St.Vincents to JAMES SETON Junr. Esqr. Lieutenant Colonel Commandant of the Colony Rangers. A Token of Gratitude for his having accepted the Command of them, for his judicious Conduct and Gallantry in expeditiously training them and leading them to GLORY, by which exertions the Colony was saved for the CROWN of GREAT BRITAIN in the Year 1795, from the united efforts of the FRENCH & CHARRAIBS.
