The inscription reads: Edmond Knapp Esqr. many Years MP for the city of Cork & Alderman of that City, having been Mayor in the Year Seventeen Hundred & Three, gave this little Dish to his Grand Daughter Ellen Piercy afterwards Mrs. Davies of Dawstown, who gave it in the year Seventeen Hundred & Ninety two, to her Daughter Mrs. Mary Gray
