Of square shape with angled upper edge, applied with rectangular panels of oxhorn reverse-painted in bright pigments of green, yellow, brown, ochre and black on a predominantly red ground, all framed within narrow strips of ivory, the four panels on the cover each depicting a crane flying amidst clouds, the angled upper edge of the cover designed with scrolling clouds on a yellow ground, the sides of the box and cover illustrated on each side with paired birds or animals, including dragons matched with either a lion or tiger, and birds matched with either a deer or a goat, respectively, all surrounded by peonies, pines, and dense, scrolling clouds, the interior lined in paper, the base wood
