Lot Essay

These two scrolls illustrate celebrated places on the outskirts of the capital, Kyoto. The first volume contains views on the eastern side of Kyoto labelled Hashihime, Ujibashi, Byodoin, Mimuro, Gokonomiya, Fujinomori, Inari, Tofukuji, Aizendo, Sennyuji, Sanjusangen, Daibutsu, Koyasu, Kiyomizu, Yasaka, Gion, Kanshinin, Chionin, Nanzenji, Shimmei, Nyakuoji, Yoshida and Mitarai. The second volume contains views on the western side of Kyoto labelled Kamo daimyojin, Kamo no Myojin, Kuramadera, Kifune, Kinkakuji, Kitano, Omuro, Narutaki, Yahata Jingoji, Saga, Shakado, Kiyotaki, Atago, Horinji, Atagoyama, Matsuo, Jizo gongen, Saihoji and Mukono Myojin.
