PATRICK HENRY AS PRACTICING ATTORNEY
A good legal letter to a fellow attorney: "By the State of Juille & Cos. Judgements ag[ains]t Fuqua which you were pleased to send me I find his Debt is very much greater than he informed me it was. He has recd. £65 from my grand son as it was coming to me. He countermanded an Order which I accepted in Favor of Tompkins. And by these several Occurences I am induced to fear some Dispute will arise between us unless we meet together & have an open & clear Understanding when I make him Payment. I have the Money ready to do it; but I shall pay it to Capt. Fuqua & pay it to him in person in order to keep clear of Disputes. I wrote you sometime past informing you of the £65, & now again trouble you with this that you may not be unaware of the paymt. going into the Hand of Capt. Fuqua & no other. About this Day Week I intend to be at Bookers Ferry. I requested him by Letter to pay the £65 to Mr. Juille but whether he did I know not..."
