Lot Essay

The battle was fought in the English Channel, with the Dutch fleet under Tromp de Ruyler and the English fleet under George Monck, Duke of Albemarle. The English were defeated but it was a pyrrhic victory; they were ready for sea again shortly, and attacked the Dutch again on July 25th 1666
