AN APULIAN RED-FIGURE LOUTROPHOROS
attributed to the patera painter

Both sides in two registers divided by a band of key meander, the A-Side upper register with a woman in the center seated on a folding stool, a ball in her lap and a fan in her left hand, a standing draped woman to her left, a nude youth and a standing draped woman to the right; the lower register with a winged Eros seated in the center, holding a mirror, a draped woman on either side; on the shoulder a white female head in three-quarter view to the right amidst scrolls and florals, a band of ovolo below; the B-side upper register with a nude youth between two draped women, the lower register with a seated figure of Eros with a cista between two standing draped women, a palmette complex on the shoulders above a band of wave; ivy wreath in added white on the exterior rim, stripes on the neck with palmette above, berried laurel on the handles, palmette complexes below the handles in both registers, a band of meander with saltire squares below the lower register, details in added white and yellow
