AN APULIAN RED-FIGURE COLUMN-KRATER
attributed to the patera painter
circa 325 b.c.
The A-side with an Oscan warrior between two standing draped women, the warrior in native costume seated upon his mantle, facing right, holding a spear in his right hand and a phiale in his left, with a shield resting against his right knee; the B-side with three standing draped youths; the top of the rim with stripes, palmettes on the tops and sides of the handleplates, the outer rim with a band of wave, a band of ivy and dotted rosettes on the neck, lines on the shoulders, two vertical columns of dots framing the scenes, a band of meander with dotted cross squares below
