A SICILIAN RED-FIGURE ASKOS
circa 380 b.c.
The body decorated, from the left, with a draped woman facing right, her left arm reaching forward toward a nude youth, also facing right but looking back, reaching forward toward another draped woman facing him, further to the right a nude youth with a chlamys draped around his shoulders, bending forward and gesturing toward a seated nude Eros, behind the god a draped woman moving right but glancing left, added white details now mostly lost, but "ghosts" still visible, a palmette complex under the handle, a band of ovolo above the scene, two hippocamps on the shoulder, one on either side of the handle, a band of laurel on the handle, a chevroned ball below the handle, vertical stripes on the neck
