AN ETRUSCAN BRONZE BALSAMARIUM
circa 3rd century b.c.
Cast in the form of a woman's head, perhaps representing Turan (Aphrodite) or a Lasa, her melon-coiffure adorned with a peaked diadem with incised scrolling, with small curving locks on the forehead and temples, wearing a necklace and disk earrings with inverted pyramidal pendants, her lips pursed into a smile, her lidded eyes with dotted pupils, surmounted by two short links of chains joined to the attachment loops, the fitted lid with a facing head, all joined to a single ring attached to a larger-linked chain; together with an Etruscan-style balsamarium of similar form
