A LATE ROMAN BRONZE CROSSBOW FIBULA
circa 4th-5th century a.d.
Cast with a faceted crossbar with flanges above, with onion-shaped terminals at each end with knurled collars, the heavy bow and catchplate with incised guilloche along the length, the bow with an onion-shaped terminal with knurled collar, the catchplate faceted below and open on one side to receive the pin, and cast with three volutes on either side, the iron pin hinged on a rod at the center of the underside of the crossbar
