TEN ANGLO-SAXON GILT BRONZE BROOCHES AND FITTINGS
circa late 5th-early 6th century a.d.
Including a button brooch with sloping rim, the center with an anthropomorphic mask enclosed within two concentric ribs, the inner one punched, the outer with punched rings; a disc brooch with chip-carved Style I animal ornament of two pair of confronted stylized animals, the raised circular center and outer rim originally tinned; a flat, rectangular mount cast with an interlace pattern, perforated for attachment, one edge missing; a cruciform mount with a raised border enclosing triple-ribbed interlace ribbon, each arm with flat triangular extensions; an axe-shaped mount with a raised, patterned border enclosing triple-ribbed ribbon interlace, a rivet in place on the square end, and four projecting shanks along the curve; a tongue-shaped mount with a double-ribbed border enclosing a triple-ribbed figure-eight, two attachment shanks in back; a flat rectangular mount with chip-carved Style I animal ornament around a rectangle inlaid with glass, two corners with attachment perforations, a secondary perforation between them; a flat rectangular mount with chip-carved Style I animal ornament around a raised rectangular field, a short rivet in back for attachment; a square mount with chip-carved Style I animal ornament, the corners with rivets in back for attachment, one corner with a perforation replacing the rivet, suggesting secondary use as a pendant; and a small rectangular mount with chip-carved Style I animal ornament, a central rivet in back for attachment
