This vase, from the Bikini series by Fulvio Bianconi, was designed in 1949 and was executed in two color variations: white and blue on a colorless ground and white and black on a colorless ground. Its official model number is 3876. Although the vase was originally designed with a stopper in the form of a female head with curled hair, it was never added to the final version due to technical difficulties.
Paolo Venini chose to adapt some of Bianconi's so-called torso vase designs for commercial production and incorporated them into his own firm's output. While there are several of these series, torso, bikini, and sirene, few vases of the series were actually produced, for production of all figural vases was soon discontinued. The vase was presented at the 9th Triennale of Milan and appeared in photographs maintained in the Triennale Archives.
