A GEORGE IV PARCEL GILT SILVER CENTERPIECE WITH GLASS BOWL, maker's mark of Benjamin Smith, London, 1820, date letter on base only, maker's mark of base partly pierced through for later electrification, hole at top of one head, fully marked, the raised, flat topped, molded circular base inset with wood and covered by silver disc, on three rose headed gilt lion's paw supports within paired lush acanthus apron, the base with thin lobed band below frosted chased lotus flower and leaf band, the flat platform supporting three Classical maidens, each holding a wreath in one hand, the other arm upstretched to support the open wire work basket, the lower body with chased guilloche band, the upper border with applied continuous rose garland, the deep molded circular glass bowl, lightly molded with broad scalework, with flaring cut tongue and dart border--the centerpiece 16in. (40.6cm.) high, the bowl 7¼in. (18.4cm.) high and 14¾in. (37.4cm.) diam., the silver 83oz.
