John Henderson was the son of Joseph Henderson (1832-1908) and shared the same address in Glasgow as his brother Joseph Morris Henderson at 207 West Campbell Street. Like his brother, John was influenced by his father's style and subject-matter which closely resembled McTaggart's luminous opalescent seas and radiating lights. McTaggart had been a close friend of Joseph Henderson and when his first wife died he married McTaggart's daughter.
