DOMAINE LEJEUNE
This is a family Domaine, which has passed down the female line from aunt to niece through 5 generations. It has been carefully run since 1977 by Francois Julien de Pommerol (sic), one-time Professor of Oenology at the Beaune viticultural Lycée. Wine-making is original : whole bunches are progressively foot-squashed in wooden vats, to liberate their sugars slowly, building powerfully structured wines which age magnificently.
Of the three vintages consigned, the 1978s and 1979s are both completely ready for drinking, with well-developed aromas of gameyness and undergrowth. The quality of 1979 has caught up that of the classic 1978, with cellaring. The 1982's were particularly successful here, and have taken on weight with bottle-age. They retain a touch of firmness, particularly the Pommard Rugiens. AH
