DOMAINE PIERRE MOREY, MOREY BLANC
From 1971-91, Pierre Morey was tenant farmer of the Domaine des Comtes Lafon, being rewarded for his labours with grapes from the Lafon vineyards. With the ending of those arrangements, to supplement his own vineyard-holdings he formed a small négociant business (in association with his wife, née Blanc) to purchase grapes and juice. He is recognised as one of the greatest white wine makers on the Côte de Beaune, and since September 1989 has been Manager of the Domaine Leflaive. All his Domaine vineyards have been cultivated organically since 1992. AH
The Pierre Morey Red wines :
"I started to get my red wine-making right from 1988 onwards," says Pierre Morey, highlighting the 1991 vintage, amongst those consigned below, for its tender charms and present drinkability. The 1993's are still a bit young, and not very open, but promise well. 1994s are fine and elegant, and absolutely ready. Incidentally, Meursault Les Durots (rouge) is a little-known vineyard near Volnay-Santenots, which can need 6 - 10 years for its tannins to soften. AH
