DOMAINE ROULOT
This estate is increasingly being recognised as one of Meursault's greatest. The present owner-winemaker, Jean-Marc Roulot, initially trained as a French classical actor, but now brings his striking intellect and creative gifts to bear in the family vineyards, vat-house and cellars (while still occasionally treading the boards). He has consigned a superb breadth of great wines from the family reserves. His Perrières and Charmes bottlings are classics. The Meursault-Tessons comes from a singly-owned section called Clos de Mon Plaisir, which has almost the intensity of a 1st Growth, and can be a great bargain from this cellar.
There are no lesser vintages in what Jean-Marc Roulot has consigned. The 1986's are drinking well, though they should not be decanted, as they evolve quite rapidly in the glass. These vintages are a résumé of 20 years of family activity at the Domaine. The 1979 was made by Jean-Marc's father Guy Roulot, the 1986 by his cousin Franck Grux, the balance by Jean-Marc (1989 having been his first vintage). AH
