W.C. FIELDS
A taped and stitched black collapsible top hat used by W.C. Fields, circa early 1900s. The purposely "distressed" hat was used during W.C. Fields' early vaudeville act as a vagabond tramp juggler, when he would tear, patch and tape his clothes for the sake of the act. Mr. Fields gave the hat to his close friend and fellow road performer Dick Ward. Accompanying the hat is a card in its interior from Dick Ward, a copy of a letter to Mr. Ward from Mr. Fields in which he discusses his drinking problems and copies of articles and photographs regarding both entertainers.
