1913 FORD MODEL T RUNABOUT
Engine No. 14441732
Green with black fenders
Engine: four-cylinder, 176.7 ci, 22hp; Gearbox: planetary transmission, two speeds forward one reverse, three pedal one lever; Brakes: contracting band on transmission; Suspension: transverse springs, front and rear. Left hand drive.
No other car has had nearly such a dramatic impact as the Ford Model T. Introduced in October of 1908 the revolutionary little cars were simple, well designed, reliable and very affordable at $525.00 by 1913. For the first time the automobile was obtainable to the common man, and Henry Ford's famous production line would cater to that demand by supplying some fifteen million Model T's.
Most of all they were great cars. Ford's use of vanadium steel made the Model T light yet strong. The 20hp monobloc engine with a detachable cylinder head was an advanced design that gave an impressive 50mph top speed - far better than almost any car for its size and weight.
This very attractive T Runabout is fitted with a late Model T engine equipped with a starter and generator for ease of use. It also has a distributor and Model B Ford Carburettor - the ideal touring set-up for the early T's. The Runabout was discovered in Glastonberry, Connecticut and restored at Fleet Supply Corporation by specialist Walter Heater. It has performed faultlessly for Mr. Williams on various occasions and would be an ideal tour car that is eligible for many brass era events.
