Yu Yan Pavilion
Handscroll, ink on paper, 9¾ X 47¾in. (25 X 122cm.)
Inscribed: (When) Mr. Bao An (Wu Kwan, 1435-1504) rebuilt the Yu Yan Pavilion at Happy Grove during the Chenghua era (1465-1487), Mr. Qinan (Shen Zhou, 1427-1509) painted his portrait and a number of contemporary scholars composed poems for him. One day a friend bought this very scroll to me. The calligraphy by the scholars was still intact but the portrait had disappeared. (I) thought about this and followed the style of Zhu Zhuang (Shen Zhou) to paint this.
